Human Machine Interaction Working Group to re-commence activities

The Working Group on Human Machine Interaction (WG-HMI) which has been dormant since 2006 within the eSafety Forum, is ready to re-commence activities. The first meeting of the new working group is going to be held on 28 January 2009 at the European Commission premises in Brussels.


FOT-Net extra seminar on evaluating combinations of functions or systems

The FOT-Net seminars held in October revealed the clear need to organise a seminar on how to deal with combinations of functions and/or systems in FOTs.


International Field Operational Test stakeholders meet in New York

The first international workshop in the framework of the ERTICO-led FOT- Net project was successfully held on 20 November this year, after the ITS World Congress in New York. The workshop attracted more than 50 participants from Europe, US and Japan.

TRACE and eIMPACT conference in Paris

On 26 June, the luxurious Salons Hoche in Paris hosted the TRACE and eIMPACT final workshop, more than a hundred people with different expertise profiles gathered, representing different application areas such as public authorities, car manufacturers or academics. The workshop’s focus was on the importance of research in accident causation and the potential impact of Intelligent Vehicle Safety Systems in terms of safety benefits, traffic impact and data issues.


Large scale field operational test on in-vehicle systems underway

On 13 and 14 June, the euroFOT integrated project officially kicked off in Aachen, Germany, in the premises of its coordinator, Ford. This project will identify and coordinate an in-the-field testing of new Intelligent Vehicle Systems and, from there, validate the effectiveness of selected ICT-based systems and functions for safer, greener and more efficient transport in a real-life environment.

eSafety Working Group on Service-oriented Architectures (SOA) : State of play

The SOA Working Group has been put together last year in order to fulfill new needs emerging in the IT market. The SOA is a software architecture which starts with an interface definition and builds the entire application topology as a topology of interfaces, interface implementations and interface calls. SOA concepts have a crucial role to play in overcoming potential market fragmentation through the development of common architectures and interface specifications.

Commission proposes mandatory fitting of advanced vehicle safety systems

The European Commission proposes that all new cars from 2012 will have Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems, to drastically improve vehicle safety. Furthermore lorries and other heavy vehicles should be fitted with Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Systems as of 2013
